California Institute of Technology - Caltech

The California Institute of Technology was founded as a preparatory school and vocational school in 1891, and grew to become a leading private research university attracting scientists including George Ellery Hale, Arthur Amos Noyes, and Robert Andrews Millikan.

The university has around 100 undergraduate and 1200 graduate students at any one time, making it one of the smaller universities in the US, but despite this it’s alumni boast 31 Nobel Prize winners and 65 winners of the National Medal of Science or Technology.
