Makoto Kobayashi is a well known Japanese Physicist for his work regarding CP-violation in particle physics. He was honored with the Nobel Prize in Physics 2008 along with Toshihide Maskawaand Yoichiro Nambu.
Kobayashi completed his PhD from Nagoya University (1972). Makoto Kobayashi and Toshihide Maskawa explained the origin of the broken symmetry within the standard model of particle physics and predicted the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature. Both men also developed the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix which explains the varying quantum states of quarks when taking part in the weak interactions.
Makoto Kobayashi was also honored with the Asahi Prize (1995), Japan Academy Prize (1985), Sakurai Prize (1985) and High Energy and Particle Physics Prize by European Physical Society (2007).
