Yuan T. Lee

Yuan T. Lee is a Taiwanese chemist known for his groundbreaking work in the field of crossed molecular beam research. This development made analyzing larger and complex chemical molecules possible. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1986) and shared it with Dudley Herschbach and John Polanyi.

Yuan T. Lee’s research focused on the possibility to control the energies of the reagents and understand the dependence of chemical reactivity on molecular orientation. Other researches are related to the study of reaction intermediates, decay dynamics, and identifying complex reaction mechanisms.

Lee’s honors include E.O. Lawrence Award (1981), Fairchild Distinguished Scholar (1983), Harrison Howe Award (1983), Peter Debye Award (1986) and National Medal of Science (1986).
