Nagoya University

Nagoya University has had a presence in Japan’s fourth largest city since 1871. While the university has a school of letters and a school of law, most of its 10,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate students are studying scientific fields. About one third of its undergraduate population and one fourth of its graduate population are in the School of Engineering. The Schools of Medicine and Science both have high enrolment. Forty per cent of the university’s 94 million yen budget comes from government grants and 25 per cent comes from income from the university hospital. The university’s library contains about 3 million volumes.
