Dr Mario R. Capecchi

In 1937, Dr. Capecchi was born in Verona Italy is now a US citizen. He is best known for developing the technology to target the gene in a mouse embroyo-derived stem (ES) cells. This has allowed many scientists around the globe to create mice with mutations in any desired gene.

His most notable awards are: Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research (2001), Wolf Prize in Medicine (2002) and Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (2007)
