Hartmut Michel

Hartmut Michel is a Nobel Prize Winner in Chemistry 1988 and a German Biochemist. Michel won the prize jointly with German Biochemists Huber and Deisenhofer. He worked on the crystallization of membrane bound proteins which is essential for their structural elucidation. He explored the structure of photosynthetic reaction center, a protein complex which is required for photosynthesis.

Michel was honored with ACS Biological Physics Prize 1986 (with Johann Deisenhofer), Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 1986, Otto Klung Weberbank Prize 1986 and Otto Bayer Prize 1988 (with Johann Deisenhofer).
